Expansion into additional Native American communities is slated for the school year. The essay contest is designed to inspire honest portrayals of the richness of Native American life and history. As an enduring legacy to every Native American who has ever lived, we hope to inspire a sense of honor and dignity to all participants.
Subject suggestions include Native American involvement in treaties, governments Federal and Triballanguages, education, folklore, religion, entertainment, games, sports, media and current events. In preparation for writing, students should draw from their own personal knowledge and research information from a variety of sources.
Primary and secondary source material could include: Prizes The following prizes will be awarded to winning essayists: Five 5 First-Place Winners: The winners will be accompanied by the teacher who inspired their entry into the contest.

Entries that do not adhere strictly to these rules and guidelines will not be judged. Also included are high school students enrolled in alternative schools, as well as those who are home schooled. When conducting your word count, include all words contained on your cover page if anythe body of your essay, and words used in your Bibliography, Works cited, or Reference Page.
Essays must be in English. Do not include your name anywhere on any page of your essay other than your title page, if you have one. While this is a creative writing contest, research must be an integral element of the writing process and essays must contain a Bibliography, Works cited, or Reference Page citing all materials used in the research and writing of the essay parenthetical documentation must accompany research.
